I became 100 days old.
We had the Okuziome (the first meal) ceremony.
Okuizome is a Japanese tradition that parents carry out on the 100th day after the birth of their child.
By performing the ritual, they hope their child will always have good food in abundance and will never go hungry for the rest of his or her life.
Mama prepared a traditional meal for me.
Parents prepare an Okuzome Japanned (lacquered) dining set in Japan, they prepared a Royal Delft blue tableware instead.
It is also matching with Japanese dishes, isn't it?
I am wearing a special dress, which my grandma made. Do I look gorgeous?
Although these delicious food were prepared specially for me, of course I did not eat anything. Grandpa and papa played the important roles of pretending to feed me during the ceremony.
I got a bottle of milk after the ceremony anyway.
Menu of the ceremony:
- Sekihan (red rice) – red beans with sticky rice. A popular dish for auspicious occasions.
- Osui-mono (Japanese-style soup)
- Tai (seabream) – shares the same homonym with Mede-TAI (Happy; Joyous; Auspicious), it is also a symbol of wealth and prosperity.
- Ishi & Umeboshi (stone & pickled plum). Biting a smooth pebble is an act to ensure the growth of strong healthy teeth.
- Nimono (vegetables cooked by boiling or stewing)
- Kono-mono (pickled vegetables)
